Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade 2025
The essence and impact of the Fusaka upgrade as Ethereum’s biggest scalability enhancement since The Merge, addressing both technical and user experience challenges for the evolving Ethereum ecosystem.
Ethereum Fusaka upgrade:
1/ Fusaka is a major Ethereum hard fork upgrade scheduled for December 3, 2025, following the Pectra upgrade, aiming to significantly enhance Ethereum’s scalability and efficiency.
2/ The upgrade consists of two parts: Fulu (consensus layer) and Osaka (execution layer).
3/ PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling) is the key feature, improving data availability for Layer 2 rollups by allowing nodes to download only portions of data, vastly increasing throughput and reducing hardware requirements.
4/ Fusaka increases the blob data capacity, enabling Layer 2 networks to process up to 100,000 transactions per second over time, starting from a lower initial increase.
5/ Blob Parameter Only (BPO) forks will incrementally raise blob capacity after the main upgrade, allowing gradual scaling without overwhelming validators.

6/ The gas limit is increased from 45 million to 60 million initially, with plans to eventually reach up to 200–300 million gas per block, allowing more transactions per block and reducing fees.
7/ It caps maximum block sizes and transaction gas usage to enhance network security, stability, and prevent denial-of-service attacks.
8/ The upgrade adds support for the secp256r1 elliptic curve, improving wallet interoperability using phone biometrics and passkeys rather than seed phrases.
9/ Fusaka stabilizes blob fee economics to better reflect network demand and processing costs.
10/ It introduces various optimizations for faster transaction confirmations, including preconfirmation improvements.
11/ Fusaka sets the foundation for future upgrades like Glamsterdam in 2026, which focuses on proposer-builder separation and further scalability enhancements.
Overall, Fusaka represents a major step toward Ethereum’s long-term vision of scalable, decentralized, and affordable blockchain infrastructure, enabling smoother Layer 2 usage and broader adoption.
